On September 11, 2001, the United States of America suffered a shocking terrorist attack that left a deep wound in the heart of the country. It was not just the United States that was struck that day, but the entire West and the fundamental values of our free civilization, our history, and our culture.

Twenty-three years after those tragic events, my thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims, as I extend a sincere embrace to their families and to all those who loved them.

In commemorating their memory, I reiterate today, with the same firmness as then, the commitment of Italy and the United Nations to the fight against all forms of terrorism, to the creation of a peace that censures any type of conflict and builds a better world for ourselves and for generations to come. Let us never forget.
