Women's Day
Full Text:
March 8th cannot be reduced to a simple celebration of good wishes and mimosas, as it is, first and foremost, a necessary exercise in collective awareness.
Today we proudly celebrate the strength, talent, and determination of the women who, every day, lay the foundations of our future. It is a long journey, paved by those who courageously preceded us. We think of 1945 and 1946, when Italian women finally won the right to vote, participating en masse to shape a democratic Italy. Those steps, later forcefully enshrined in our 1948 Constitution, were not only political achievements, but the beginning of a new era of dignity and active citizenship.
However, honoring this history also means facing the present reality, as I believe it is impossible to celebrate without dedicating a profound thought to those who, unfortunately, were victims of violence and were left without a voice.
Remembering femicides today doesn't diminish the celebration. On the contrary, it gives a greater meaning to every mimosa, because it transforms a flower into a commitment to the freedom and security every woman deserves, 365 days a year. There is no true victory without the universal right to live without fear.
Happy March 8th to those who fight, to those who create, to those who shine and to those who never stop claiming their space in the world.
